American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

This professional course offers American Red Cross certification in lifeguarding. Participants must be at least 15 years of age on or before the last scheduled class date and able to swim for 300 yards continiously. Then must surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and return to surface, swim back to start with the object and exit water within 1 minute 40 seconds. Swim test will be conducted on the first day of class. Participants must attend all classes, pass skills test, and pass all written work in order to receive certification. The class dates are March 12th through March 16th from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and March 17th from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Betty Queen Center and/or Randolph-Macon College. The fee for the course is $200. Only a maximum of 10 participants may attend this class. Register early; this is a great way to become qualified for summer employment.
