Louisa Gators Swim Team
Does your child like to swim? Can he/she swim a length of the pool? Does he/she spend the summer saying ”I’m bored!”? Then maybe your child should become a GATOR! The Louisa Gators Swim Team, sponsored by LCPR, is open to all area residents ages 5 through 18 (age as of June 1, 2013). The Gators compete in the Jefferson Swim League (JSL) against other teams in the Charlottesville area. Practices are held most weekdays in the morning and/or evening at the Louisa County Aquatic Facility from mid-May through July. Specific practice times are based on the swimmer’s age and ability.
The Gators are a family oriented swim team. Parent participation is required. We provide activities for the whole family throughout the summer. We like competition, but the Gator experience is not all about winning. We focus on being part of a team: improving skills and self-esteem, being active, having fun, practicing good sportsmanship, and ALWAYS doing our best! All swimmers will compete in swim meets (7 scheduled) as soon as they are deemed ready by the coaching staff. The more involved the family becomes, the better the experience! To join the Gators, swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted (one length of the pool). Those swimmers who cannot swim the length of the pool are encouraged to try the Gator Prep Program as a way to build up to becoming a Gator.
The registration fees include: 11 weeks of practice, team t-shirt, team swim cap, and JSL swimmer registration fee. Team suits are required for each swimmer and must be purchased by all team members. Goggles are also strongly encouraged. Both items will be available for purchase at registration meetings. The Gators are a self-supporting team and therefore must fundraise in addition to paying registration fees in order to cover team expenses. All families must participate in fundraising activities or pay additional fees to support the team.
For the 2013 season swimmers who register by April 13 receive the early bird saving registration special: $165 for the first child, $155 for each addition child in the same family, with a commitment for fundraising. After that date fees increase by $30 per swimmer. Financial assistance, payment plans, and a fundraiser buyout option are all available. Please attend one of the following team registration dates to meet our Head Coach, try on team suits, and handle all registration paperwork. Registration dates at the Betty Queen Center are: January 17th, February 5th, March 21st, and April 29th all from 6 until 8 p.m. An additional registration time will be held on April 13th from 10 am. until noon at the Jouett Soccer Field (team suits will NOT be available for fitting on this date). Payments may also be made at the Parks and Recreation office during regular business hours.
