Associations & Organizations
Volunteers of Louisa/CERT
Volunteers of Louisa/CERT (540) 967-6095.
VOL is continuing coordination with Louisa County Emergency Services personnel to increase Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) across Louisa County. The next free training sessions are being planned for early 2009. CERT would be activated in conjunction with an emergency situation such as a tornado, flood, fire. or other major event. Volunteers are needed in each area of the county to be the
"eyes and ears" in their communities. They will be trained to provide post-disaster response to include situation evaluation, reporting to emergency services, and possible first aid response. Contact the VOL office or e-mail director@thevol.org for additional information or to volunteer.
Volunteers of Louisa Scholarship

VOL offers a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving senior from Louisa County. This includes LCHS, Private Schools, and home schooled students pursuing advanced education. Scholarship forms are available from the LCHS Guidance office or by contacting the VOL office or e-mail director@thevol.org. Scholarship will be awarded in May 2009. Application deadline is April 15, 2009.
Adult Community Education

Jefferson-Madison Regional Library
The Louisa County Public Library is located at 881 Davis Highway in Mineral.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Golden Age Club

Louisa County Girl Scouts
Looking For Girls & Leaders! The
Girl Scouts organization is an ALL
VOLUNTEER program providing
wholesome activities for girls ages 5
through 18. We are currently enrolling girls grades
K-12 who are interested in fun, friendship, and the
power of girls together! We are also recruiting
individuals to help organize and lead troops. Volunteering is fun and
painless; all necessary training and materials are
provided to get you started and a vast local support

All elementary schools in Louisa have a Bible Club directly after school. The Good News Club offers real-life solutions backed by the power of God's word, which improves attitudes and behavior at home, and offers the moral foundation needed to combat negative peer pressure. Join Cub Scouts

Louisa Football/Cheerleading Association
Participants must reside in Louisa and
turn 9 and not 13 before October 15 of
the current year. Football has a 150
pound weight limit and is a youth tackle
program. Copy of Birth Certificate must
be provided. Louisa League provides uniforms,
equipment, and insurance. Sign up dates for 2010 have not been announced at this time. For additional information,

Louisa Area Soccer Association
Louisa Area Soccer Association offers
soccer for youth who turned 4 before
August 1, 2009 and did not reach 19 years of
age as of that date. Spring registration deadline is January 30, 2010. Checks must be made
payable to Louisa Area Soccer Association (LASA)
and mailed to Post Office Box 1727, Louisa, VA
23093. Registration forms are available at the front counters in the schools, at the public library, at the county office building, and the Betty Queen Center. For more information,

Louisa Wildcats (LYFL)
Registrations for the 2010 Season will be accepted mid-May through July. Middle School youth may register after the conclusion of LCMS Football tryouts. Louisa Little League Baseball and Softball
Registration for Louisa Little League is January 23 and January 30 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Betty Queen Center for the spring 2010 season of boys' baseball and girls' softball. Louisa Little League is open
to all boys who turn 7 through 15 years of age on or before April 30, 2010 and all girls the same age as of December 30, 2009. Participants must bring their original Birth Certificate when registering and parent/guardian must show Drivers License for proof of
residency (must reside in the Louisa Little League boundaries to play for Louisa. No exceptions!) Anyone interested in managing, coaching, umpiring, or volunteering in any way should stop by on one of the registration dates to fill out a volunteer application form. Registration fee is $65 (late registrations are $75). Any questions may be e-mailed
to louisalittleleague@yahoo.com. Little League registrations can not be accepted at the Parks and Recreation office.
Mineral Upward Basketball & Cheerleading League

Mineral Baptist Church offers an Upward Basketball and Cheerleading League for youth in K5 through 6 grade. Upward is a nondenominational evangelistic sports ministry specifically designed for youth that promotes salvation, character, and self-esteem in every child. Participants will be accepted up until game day. No preschoolers.
ReadingWindow Tutoring
Is your child struggling to read? Is homework a challenge? Has your child fallen below grade level in reading? Let us help! ReadingWindow uses a unique one-on-one tutoring method to help students who are now reading below grade level. A personal tutor will meet with both the student and the parent or guardian five days a week for six weeks at teh Old Library. Full tuition is $600. Need-based scholarships are available from the Bama Works Fund of Dave Matthews Band. Sessions begin January 11, 2010 and March 1, 2010. For more information visit readingwindow.org. comprehensive recreational programs and facilities
that satisfy leisure time needs and improve the quality
of life in Louisa County.
Program Policies
Louisa County residents will be given priority
for any program or activity.
Participants are allowed only in the rooms
designated by Parks and Recreation.
Use of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages on school property is prohibited at all times.
Louisa Parks and Recreation does not discriminate against individuals with disabilities in its classes or programs. In compliance with the American With
Disabilities Act, efforts will be made for
accommodations if at least 48 hours notice is given.
Photographs
Frequently, LCPR takes photographs of people enjoying programs, special events, or parks and facilities. These photographs may be used at the Parks and Recreation's discretion and become its sole property. We will attemp to get prior approval before publishing any photographs, however, participation in a program or activity implies approval to be photographed.

Cancellation Hotline
Louisa Parks and Recreation has a
cancellation hotline set up to make it
easier for participants to find out if
their program is canceled due to
weather related or emergency situations. The number
is (540) 967-4449. It will be updated by 5:00 p.m.
each day that cancellations apply.
Program Cancellations
Oops! We cancelled your class because we did not know you were interested! We have wonderful classes with excellent instructors that sometimes have to be cancelled because people wait until the last minute to regiser. All of our programs have minimum enrollment requirements which must be met a minimum of three days prior to the start of class. So, please don't wait.

the next meeting about the makeup schedule
when postponements occur. When schools are
closed due to inclement weather or emergency
situations, all Parks and Recreation activities
held on school property are automatically
canceled.

School Facility Visitor
Please remember that we are guests inside
the facilities that the Louisa County Public
School System allows us to use. Always
follow these simple guidelines:
- Exhibit good sportsmanship.
- Place trash in receptacles.
- Stay off of the equipment.
- No food or drink allowed in the gym.
- DO NOT wander the facility.
- Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before
scheduled game/program time.
- Depart immediately after game/program
has concluded.

Refunds / Credits
Refunds under $100 are processed and mailed to the participants via the Parks and Recreation Petty Cash
Fund. Refunds are automatic when programs are
canceled or instructor schedule changes prohibit
attendance. In the event a participant must terminate
from a program, a full refund credit will be granted
ONLY if we are notified prior to the first program
meeting. A 50% credit will be granted with prior
notification up to the second program meeting.
Thereafter, refund credits will not be given. Refunds
and/or credits do not apply to adult team sports
programs and are only issued if insufficient
registration prevents formation of the adult team
sports league.
Carnifax Fund

County citizens to honor
John Carnifax, former director
of Louisa County Parks and
Recreation and current
Deputy Director for James
City County Parks and
Recreation Department. Tax
deductible donations may be
mailed to Louisa County Parks and Recreation
at Post Office Box 864, Louisa, VA 23093. The
Carnifax Fund will assist youth whose parents
are unable to afford certain activities sponsored
by our department. If you believe you are in
need of this service, please call our office for
more information or stop by to fill out the
necessary paperwork. We believe in the
fundamental right of all citizens to have
affordable recreation, fitness awareness, and
family oriented programming.
Delinquent Accounts / NSF Checks
Delinquent accounts must be settled
before continued or future participation
in any activity will be permitted. Also,
Louisa County government charges $35 for
any checks returned to us by the banks.
Delinquent accounts and NSF checks not settled
within 10 days of notification will be entered in the
DEBT SET OFF PROGRAM with the state of
Virginia to be collected from any state refunds that
may be due you.

The Central Virginian, published every Thursday
and circulated throughout Louisa and Fluvanna
Counties, includes a listing of Louisa Parks and
Recreation activities on a regular basis as part of its
community coverage.
Established in 1912, The Central Virginian provides readers with
timely coverage of county government, education,
sports, Lake Anna and general community news, as
well as feature stories.
A subscription to The Central Virginian can be

0368. The cost is $27.50 per year for Louisa and
Fluvanna County residents or $34 for other parts of
the state. Master Card and Visa are accepted.
Individual copies can be purchased at area stores for

Lake Anna Observer
The Lake Anna Observer is a bi-weekly newspaper
published the 1st and 15th of each month and
provides a listing of Louisa Parks and Recreation
activities. The Lake Anna Observer covers topics
that affect Louisa, including human interests,
community happenings, political and local
government news. A 12 month subscription is $25 and can be
